When Is RCT Not Necessary?
If tooth decay is limited to the enamel and dentin layers, there is no need for a root canal treatment. In such cases, a simple dental filling will restore the tooth effectively. For example, a recent patient at V Dental Gajuwaka came in complaining of food lodgement and sensitivity. After a clinical and radiographic examination, we found that the decay was confined to the dentin. So, we opted for a tooth-colored composite filling, and the patient experienced immediate relief.
When Is RCT Required?
Root canal treatment becomes necessary when the decay extends deep into the pulp or is very close to the pulp. This often results in severe pain, spontaneous pain, or sensitivity to hot and cold. In such cases, RCT is the best treatment to remove the infection and save the natural tooth.
